(PABA) let children with autism expressed themselves through art by giving them the opportunity to spend an afternoon with Christopher Lacson, a Creative Director, Illustrator, Designer and Instructor of design work last March 29, 2005.

PABA Members Attend Singapore Workshop

Members of the Philippine Association for Behavior Analysis, Inc. (PABA) flew to Singapore on Valentine’s Day to attend Michelle Garcia Winner’s two-day intensive workshop entitled “Teaching Social Thinking & Social Skills to Young Singapore ConferenceIndividuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders at Home and at School” last February 15 and 16, 2005 at Furama RiverFront Singapore.

The well-attended workshop, which brought psychologists, speech-language therapists, primary school teachers, special education teachers, behavioral therapists, parents and other professionals working with children with ASD together, focused on interventions designed to improve the social thinking and social skills of young individuals high on the autism spectrum or with non-verbal learning disabilities.

30th annual PABA convention in Boston

Being the officers of the Philippine Association for Behavior Analysis, Inc. (PABA) , we were honored to represent not only the association but also the country at the 30th Annual ABA Convention in Boston, Massachusetts last May 28 to June 1, 2004. There were over 3,000 participants from all over the world that attended the various workshops and lectures.
Philippine attendees were PABA officers Marissa Cojuangco, Josephine “Dos” De Jesus, Shanti Kilduff and also Bunny Joaquin- Mañosa and Kim Altarejos. The conference workshops presented updated techniques that are currently being used in the field of ABA while vast variety of symposiums demonstrated the current studies being done in the field of Autism.
The conference also honored the 100th anniversary of the birth of B.F. Skinner. Charles Catania, Jack Michael, Jay Moore, Mark Sundberg and Juliei Vargas presented the celebration.

Lectures & Workshops

First PABA Symposium

The first symposium of the Philippine Association for Behavior Analysis, Inc. (PABA) entitled “An Introduction to Applied Behavior Analysis and Autism Treatment” held at the Institute of Social Order of the Ateneo de Manila University last March 11, 2005 attracted a crowd of almost 400 with participants coming from as far as Naga and Zamboanga. The tremendous public response from the pre-registration to the on-site registration was too overwhelming that not all people were accommodated due to seating constraints.

The speakers were Steve Richardson and Caitlin Conklin of Applied Behavior Consultants (ABC) based in California, USA. Richardson is the Director for Educational Services while Conklin is the Director for Community Services of ABC. The symposium provided the participants an excellent overview of ABA as a treatment for autism and the speakers were very generous of their time to answer all the questions thrown to them.

 

PABA MEMBERS UNDERGOES INTENSIVE ABA WORKSHOP

The Philippine Association for Behavior Analysis, Inc. (PABA) organized for its members a comprehensive four-day workshop entitled, “An Introduction to Applied Behavior Analysis and Autism Treatment” which was held last March 7-10, 2005 at the Fil-Indian Fellowship in Makati City. 

PABA WorkshopThe two speakers from Applied Behavior Consultants (ABC) in California, USA – Steve Richardson, Director for Educational Services and Caitlin Conklin, Director for Community Services – who both possessed thorough understanding of ABA practice made sure that the workshop was interesting and fun all throughout.

The topics came up with series of intensive lectures, demonstrations and pretend situations, which were evaluated to be favorable to the participants for the advancement of their programs. The ABC specialists tapped on the goals for children receiving intensive intervention, the Functional Analysis Model, prompts, reinforcement, Error Correction Procedures, lesson formats, basic lessons of ABA program and troubleshooting, collection of data, methodical generalization, verbal operant/behavior, behavioral problems and assessment, Functional Analysis, and creating intervention plan.  An overview of an ABA education was also discussed.  The speakers gave the participants the chance to go through hands-on trainings to practice and enthusiastically addressed the questions being raised with utmost intelligibility.
